Overview
The Quikscribe Tutor is a modified version of the Quikscribe
Recorder. With it, you can easily make professional in-house
C.B.T. (Computer Based Training) content real-time.
Traditionally
to make C.B.T. content, it required a large investment in time,
but now with the Quikscribe Tutor you can now record, capture,
edit and create web-ready C.B.T. content seamlessly behind any
Windows based program in real-time.
Once you have captured and created your training content, you
have the option to do post editing using Sound
Forge for
the audio or Photo Shop etc with your images.
Once
you are happy with the content and the timing of the presentation
you can compile and distribute your training content via LAN,
WAN, Intranet, Internet, e-mail or CD-ROM.
|
|
|
Finished
training content can then be used in three ways (stages)
1) Show Me - The user is shown how to complete a task or procedure.
2) Guide Me - The user is guided (step by step) through a task
or procedure.
3) Let Me - The user has gained sufficient knowledge at this
stage and practices on their own.

Easy
to learn and use
No programing language is required to create C.B.T. Content, which
means almost anyone can start developing C.B.T. Content in less
than 10 minutes. All that is required, is to know how to use the
Quikscribe Hand
Control,
and the subject or content that they are wishing to teach..
Able to
record in Overwrite
or Insert mode
When recording
a narration, you would normally use Overwrite Mode (like a traditional
tape recorder) however being digital it is possible to record
additional audio anywhere within the file by recording in Insert
Mode.
Real-time
editing with Undo & Redo abilities
If you ever
make a mistake when recording (which we all do) rather than rewind,
queue up your position and then re-record over your mistake, you
can simply press the Undo button on the Hand
Control
and re-record your last audio edit.
Ability
to capture screen shots in real-time
If you wish to capture a screen shot while creating your C.B.T.
Content, simply press the Insert button on the Quikscribe Hand
Control,
which will take a screen shot and insert this image within a marker.
If you press the Insert button quickly, it will just capture the
active window and if you hold the Insert button down for a second,
it will capture the full screen.
Able to do post editing of screen shots
Captured screen shots can be post-edited, whereby circles or arrows
can be added to menus or buttons etc. The actual position (timing)
of the screen shot can also be changed.
Able to do post editing of captured audio
Captured audio can be post edited, by exporting the audio and
associated markers into Sound Forge. Once the audio has been edited,
it can be imported back into the Quikscribe Tutor.
|
|
Able
to do post editing of timing
After you have captured your content (audio and visual), it
is possible to change the timing or sequence of your presentation.
Ability to display BMP, PNG, JPEG & WMF
All
screen shots captured, are initially saved as BMP,
but from a distribution perspective BMP's
are very large. Therefore it is suggested that you use the built-in
PNG
and JPEG
compression capabilities, so as to significantly reduce file
size. If your presentation requires text, graphs or charts to
be displayed, WMF
files from Microsoft Power Point can be imported and displayed.
Lastly, from presentation perspective, if you require Screen
Wipes, there is over 100 transitions to chose from.
Ability to open embedded files
Almost any type of file can be embedded into the C.B.T. Content
For example, a mail merge tutorial can contain a sample letter
and a sample database, with which a student can then use do
the mail merge tutorial with.
Ability to fire URL's or e-mail addresses
If you wish to create web related C.B.T. tutorials, now you
can. Simply insert the URL or e-mail address and when the C.B.T.
Content is viewed, the corresponding web site will automatically
load.
Finished
files are Web ready
The Quikscribe Tutor uses multiple compression technologies,
as a result is produces very small files. To demonstrate, click
here to download and view some sample
tutorials.
Works
behind almost any Windows program
Since the Quikscribe Tutor uses a Hand Control as it's primary
input and control method, it is able to seamlessly record and
edit behind almost any other type of Windows program. Exception
being an application that uses the sound card, in which case
content can still be created, but not in real-time.

How
much training content can be produced and saved on a standard
CD-ROM (650Meg) using the Quikscribe Recorder?
Whenever the Quikscribe Recorder captures screen shots, it captures
them in a BMP format. Which is good from a post editing perspective
as captured images can easily be edited in Microsoft Paint etc.
However from a distribution perspective the file file size of
a BMP is not suitable.
For this
reason, the Quikscribe Recorder has image compression capabilities
built-in, whereby it possible to compress images using either
PNG
or JPEG.
For
example, an average 800x600 24 Bit screen shot is about 1.44
Meg, however once compressed as PNG image it will only take
up about 25K per image. That's works out to be a 70:1 compression
ratio!
Now if you
were to take 5 screen shots per minute while recording your
presentation content using a 8Khz compressed audio sample rate,
you could record, capture and save up to 48 hours of training
content on a single CD-ROM, with a total of 14,400 screen shots.

Is
it possible to import slides directly
from Microsoft Power Point?
YES - But before
you attempt to do this, make sure that your Page Set-up in Power
Point is correct. For some crazy reason, MS Power Point does
not provide a simple method to export a 800x600 slides or a
640x480 slides, instead the default output is resolution is
720x540.
The good news is that the 720x540 output resolution is actually
a 4:3 ratio, which means it possible to work backwards and come
up with a magic number which equals 0.035275. If you multiple
this magic number by the resolution you want e.g. 800x600 it
means you need to change the page set-up to a Width to 28.22cm
and Height to 21.17cm. However to save you time, you can simply
download the Power Point Templates Files (.pot) on the right
which have already been set-up correctly.
